    I mean VIRTUALdub - I can't edit the title.

I have a 700MB AVI that I need to bump the volume on, so I used virtualdub. However, when I recode using xVid, I can't get it under 1400MB - no matter what settings I use.

Can anyone help me get the file size down in virtualdub?

    Thanks!

If you just are changing the audio set the Video->direct stream copy in virtualdub and be sure to use an audio compression under audio->compression like lame mp3.

In the audio settings, I have audio set to 96bps using VBR. I'm not sure what compression it's using, although I do have LameFE installed

If you have Lame MP3 installed, you would see it when you select 'Full audio processing>Compression'. And be sure to set the video to 'Direct stream copy'.

When I just need to "bump" up the audio on divx/xvid files, I use avirecomp. Much easier in my opinion.

EDIT. My fault you are not re-encoding the video, just audio. I read the original post too quickly and though you wanted to bump the audio and get the file from 1400MB to 700MB
