  1. Hello all,

This weekend I will be shooting a new health video here in Mali, West-Africa. The last days there has been quite some wind and dust and I am wondering what I could do to avoid recording as less wind as possible...

I choose a spot where there are not as many high trees and I was thinking about setting my audio channel 1 and 2 to "extern" instead of - normally - channel 1 to extern (using a external mic) and channel 2 to intern to pick up some of the surrounding sounds.

Any other suggestions then these? It needs to be manageable for a small (3 persons) team and here in Africa we do not have the luxury to go shopping in a video store to get what we need

Thanks for thinking with me and any input in this matter!

I see a lot of filmakers use a 'fake fur' cover over the microphone to help reduce wind noise. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/360716-REG/WindTech_MM_8_Fur_Fitted_Microphone_Windshield.html

A couple of links that may give you some ideas.

You could also try a fluffy wool sock, though it wouldn't be as effective as the fur. Or I suppose you could knit a wind 'sock'. Where you're at you may have access to real fur, but it would still need some sort of open mesh to attach the fur to. Hope that helps a little.

    Real fur won't work.

These things are designed to pass the audio spectrum. Some thin fabric may partially work. Test it when you have good loudspeakers.

Order the real thing for next time.

This is a quick and cheap way for the on-camera mic.

This is a interesting clip on wind screens, the first 2 minutes at least.
