  1. Good morning
I just register for ffmpegX and I'm trying to burn a DVD on Toast from a .avi file with subtitles. I understood from the official website that I have to go to “tools tab” and choose “author” to achieve my purpose to have a VIDEO_TS file with subtitles from the .mpg file, that I got with ffmpegX, and the .str subtitle file.

Well, when I do so, it appears the follow warning:
    AppleScript Error
The variable _videoinfo is not defined. (-2753)

I don't know what I have to do. Anyone could help me?

    Thank you
    Affonso (affonsohnunes@gmail.com).

Moving you to our ffmpegx section.

  3. Thank you.

This error is mentioned only once before, and that may have been caused by the specific .mpg file, as that user got a working result with a different movie.

Perhaps some properties of the .mpg file are not DVD compliant?
    • Did ffmpegX encode the .mpg file? If so, what settings were used?
    • If you drop the .mpg file onto ffmpegX's main window (Summary, 'Drop file here' section), what does it say about the video and audio properties?

  5. Thanks a lot for the reply.

I have an .avi file movie (I moved to Mac recently, and I achieved to burn a DVD with this same file with subtitles on PC software Clone DVD). All the work was done on ffmpegX.

I rode a ffmpegX tutorial that tells I could get the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files direct join the .avi and .str, but it did not occured. What I got were .mpg, .ac3 and other files, and I was not shure what to do with them to get my VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files.

I've tried "mux" and "author" with the .mpg and .str, but a error occured on ffmepX (not from Apple OS X, this time)

I'm trying to figure if xxmepX really works.

    Best regards.

  6. I can try all the procedures again, if you could explain how.

    Thanks.

I presume this AVI has XviD video and mp3 audio? That is, codecs that ffmpegX is not likely to have trouble with.

By default, ffmpegX is set to create a VIDEO_TS folder for DVD presets ('Author as DVD' checkbox in the Options tab). However, if ffmpegX encounters an error, the process will stop.
If the files are good, you can author from the .mpg and .srt to create a VIDEO_TS folder.

You keep mentioning ".str", so I guess it is not a typing error. ffmpegX expects the SubRip subtitles to have a ".srt" suffix. Perhaps it is failing because it thinks it is the wrong file type.

  8. Thank you again. I'll try all the procedures that you've told me and let you know.

If the conversion or authoring fails again, then please post the Process Information log here. This log is accessible by clicking the blue "i" in the ffmpegX Progress window, right after a conversion attempt.

  10. I'll do that. Thanks.
