    Hello,

I'm aware that there are a few firmware versions which could extend the functionality of Philips DVP5960. What I'm looking for is a fw which will allow to play directly .mkv videos, without needing to convert them in .avi / .divx. Anybody knows something about such a fw and where it could be found?

    Thanks in advance!

In addition to what MJA posted, I just want to reiterate that MKV (just like AVI), is a CONTAINER, not a FORMAT. You could very well have a Xvid video stream and an MP3 audio stream inside of an MKV container, and if that were the case, no conversion would be required - you'd still need to extract the audio and video streams and merge them together (I think ReJig can do that without reencoding).

However, a lot of times, especially nowadays, MKV containers are used for HD content (.H264 video), and NO firmware upgrade will EVER make a standard DVD player play HD content.
