I am trying to compose my own audio CD from a collection of .wav files. I measured their average RMS dB and the fluctuation between them isn't much: about -9.3dB to
    -12.8dB RMS

However, since I am about to put them on the same CD, I would like to equalize them as close as possible and I was wondering if anyone knew whether Nero does any normalizing when you burn an audio CD from .wav files?

If not, what would be the best way to equalize/normalize them without causing any clipping and degradation to the quality of the sound?

Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

  2. Nero definately has a normalize option, you just have to look for it as it's "hidden" somewhere and I can't remember where it is right now, sorry.

However I have found that using this option actually degrades sound quality. Most of the "normalized" tracks I have burnt sound "strange": treble too high while bass remains the same, clipping occuring every now and then, booming sound when you play the track in high volume... It's more apparent when normalizing mp3 tracks, but it happens with wav tracks too. Avoid.

I would advise you getting yourself a decent sound editor like Cool Edit Pro or Cool Edit 2000 and treat each track separately, using the wealth of options provided. It's time consuming but worth it if quality is what you ask.
