  1. OK just wandering is there an alternative to softsubs for multilingual .mkv releases. Softsubs are quite popular now so that you can pick whatever sub is included in the container but the downside is that people really like to use mkvextract and steal the scripts and make their own releases from them and that pretty much sucks since you put a lot of effort in it and in the end somebody takes the credit for it .

    So any ideas ?

    Your other alternative is to put in hard subs (i.e. encode them into the image) however this means

    a) re-encoding the entire video, risking a drop in quality,
    b) they are no longer switchable
    c) only one language
    d) if someone really wants them, they can OCR the video and extract a new set of soft subs without too much effort.

    if you don't want them out there, don't put them out there.
