Hi there, I am a newbie... a very new one.... I would like to make a multilingual DVD and I was looking in internet to see whether I could find anything when I came across your fantastic forum....
Considering that I know very little about editing and authoring and I don’t seem to find much information on the net could you please give me some advices??
My goal is to make a DVD with a family video in different languages.... basically this DVD should have one video file but with more audio files (one for each different language) and of course a DVD menu to select the different languages.....
Is there any free programme which I could you to do that??? Which are your recommendations???
Any help is much appreciated
Cheers

You can use the free DVD Styler. It does both video/audio conversion and the dvd authoring. You basically just add your video source and then the additional audio sources(see screenshot)
But it might not be that simple to use and buggy. If you want more features(editing also) is probably an all-in-one editor like tmpgenc authoring works, VideoStudio Pro, etc better and also easier to use but they are not free.Last edited by Baldrick; 10th Nov 2011 at 07:57.

Cheers Baldrick... thank you for the info.... i will check it out...
hopefully it will do me!
By any chance do you know how many audio sources you can add with this program??? Is there a limit???
Which free editing program would you recommend using to edit a video and separate the audio file from the video file or would be better to use a Dictaphone to register the audio files separately???
Cheers again -
Maybe you better tell us exactly how many languages you need to support. Free DVD making programs do tend to impose limits on this. Anything above 3 different audio tracks might be a problem with some free programs. Note too each audio file takes up space and a DVD is only so big. If you're thinking of having, say, 20 different audio tracks, that's probably not a realistic goal.

DVD-Video support max 8 audio tracks. I guess DVDStyler supports that many also but I have not tried it.
You can use a demultiplexer to separate audio from video, see https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/video-de-multiplexers . Most are free.
You can do basic video editing(cutting, filters) with Virtualdub or Avidemux. -
Cheers guys... so much info in so little time.... I do really appreciate that
As I said before I know really little about this exiting new world...
the video is going to be pretty short about 10-15 minutes but ideally I wanted to put more than 8 different languages... unfortunately if a DVD supports max 8 audio tracks there is no much I can do... probably the only possible thing is to produce more DVDs...
Thank you very much once more -
Its not problem, instead 1 title video, you simple put 2 same title videos in 1 DVD
when you build Menu in DVD its gonna look like you have 1 title in DVD
I recommend to build DVD with Adobe Encore -
You can make several titles with same video in DVD Styler also.
But Adobe Encore, Tmpgenc authoring works, etc are easier to use. -
Only note: the Tmpgenc authoring works limit to 2 audio tracks per 1 title video and limited control over customizing menu.
-
alright.... just to clarify my understanding.... every video file can have maximum 8 sound tracks associated with it.... so I could potentially have the same video file copied twice in a DVD with the same title (so in the menu appear only 1 title) and have up to 16 sound tracks associated with them, if I have 3 video files up to 24 sound tracks and so on....
As for Adobe Encore, I was looking at this programme but it seems to be pretty expensive... do you know any alternative with similar features but much cheaper or even free??? I already download DVDstyler but I didn't get the chance to try it out yet...
Anyway thank you very for your help...

As you downloaded DVDStyler and looking at the pic baldrick posted, it seems that DVDStyler has provision for multi-audio.
If not, you can create separate titles for different languages in DVDStyler.
i will check DVDStyler out if it has tux version of all ziped (no-installer) version.
