i have been using a old hauppage wintv go cap card for a long time.i have never had audio problems before(never had sync problems on older setups)now when i capture i get a wobble coming out of the audio portion of the encode, this is not out of sync just sounds like a drunk slurring his speech sometimes.i have a decent setup for capping mpeg vids i use
intervideo windvr3 for the cap program.this combo worked great on everything from a pentim 2 550 to my self built gigbyte mobo athlon xp +2400 setup. i think it might have something to do with my chipset but can'y be sure.i don't use
the onboard video i got a 64mb agp8x nividea for that.i do use the onboard sound though, but i tried a pci soundcard and the problem is still there.any thoughts?

Detail ANY and ALL changes to the PC, software, hardware, source, cables, ANY CHANGE, which happened in between Before and Now.
What happens when you play a standard and/or previously OK audio file? Video file?
Software updates, driver updates, new programs, hardware changes, INCLUDE EVERYTHING.
Do not go through 3 pages of Q & A before mentioning your new RAID array, or how the house was struck by lightning, or that the PC was just shipped 3000 miles in a pickup truck. -
the pc does not have raid drivers, all media files other than cap files play flawless.my setup cap card hdd windvr did not change my computer did!!
i put the setup in my son's 1ghz pentium 3 computer and the same setup works flawless.he only has a 4mb video and a creative pci soundcard.i put his card in my computer but the cap still wobbles.i know the new comp has to be the problem, just don't know where to start.i don't think the amd is the problem my previous setup had the athlon xp 2400 in it and the same hdd's the same programs i cap at 1/4 dvd standard for size reasons if this helps.thanks to any who can help!! -
So you have a completely new computer, and since installing the card in the new PC, it has never worked correctly? While the same card, placed in an older machine, still works OK?
Well Gosh Golly Gee Whiz, perhaps some info on the NEW PC, the one the card is currently installed in and with which it is having problems from day one, might be helpful?
Older card, hi-speed bus, that could be it right there. Change in the OS, perhaps?
How about older caps that play correctly on the older PC. How do they play in the new one?
Just as an experiment, take the capture card out and lay it on the desk. How well does it work? This is to illustrate that the PC is a necessary component of the "setup". The last paragraph of my first reply was intended at least partly as humour, though using real-world examples from this board. Now you actually put the card into an entirely new PC and did not think this was important enough to mention?
This is why I usually ask "WHAT ELSE HAS CHANGED?" several times when I do this for a living. On the board, I generally just give up in disgust.
You mentioned using the same hard drives. Did you install all the drivers for the new motherboard? Did you remove all the old motherboard drivers? Did you re-install the capture software, preferably AFTER installing the drivers for the new sound components? How old are these drives?
Also, describe "wobbly" in greater detail. Pitch or speed rising or falling? Choppy, intermittant sound? Playback slow or fast? Have you tried demuxing the audio and testing it seperate from the video? Have you tested one of the new, problem capture files on the old PC which has demonstrated correct playback? -
os is the same winxp sp2 .the fsb speed of old cpu was 266mhz,fsb of new pc is pc2700 which is 333mhz i think.older caps play fine on this computer just new caps from this computer play messed up on every thing i try them on. i have 3 other older machines here,a ps3, and a standalone dvd player.the specs in my profile are from the new computer.wobbly is pitch rising and falling with an intermitent pop now and again.i don't know if this helps but the cpu is an hp model a310e.

That is not a CPU model, that is a model number for the whole computer unit. Not really needed.
You did not answer the question about the motherboard drivers. Very important.
At this point, I would try breaking down the problem. Record audio only, using a different program. Test.
Use a different video capture program. Test.
Do you notice ANY video abnormalities at the time of the audio problem? Most especially a slight choppiness to the video? Could be dropping frames.
Could be a whole bunch of factors, if the drives were not formatted in this PC, that could be an issue, driver conflict, clock mismatch, too many variables.
Any differences to the drive cabling in the new PC versus old PC? Something as simple as a defective cable could be the problem.
The answer to the problem lies in "WHAT IS DIFFERENT BETWEEN THE WORKING CONDITION AND THE NON-WORKING CONDITION?" Is the drive horizontal in the old PC and vertical in the new one?
Analyze IN DETAIL any and ALL differences, and the answer will be found. -
i tried capping to windows movie maker and lo and behold,i can cap 320x240 wmv file and all is well.still don't know why intervideo windvr don't like this computer.if i could get moviemaker to allow me to change channels on the fly instead of having to use the wizard gui everytime i would just use that.i tried using virtualdub but i get somekind of pin?? error.
