I seem to have some off-the-air video restoration problems different from the ones most often discussed here:

1. Most of my tapes have the same reception problem in the picture: In a wide band up and down the left edge, it's brighter than the rest of the picture. Cropping this is really not an option. What software would allow me to adjust only this area, instead of the whole picture, as iMovie is supposed to? So far, what I've found is intended for production and so it's much more powerful than I'll ever need, and maybe more complicated to use, too .

2. In some broadcasts, the music pitch wobbled, as though the audio had been through an audio-cassette recorder needing maintenance. What automatic pitch-correction application would take care of this?

3. Some videos turn up with the audio and video out of sync by as much as a second or two. Suggestions for correction tools? At least the interval is constant, unlike 2.

4. Hum buzz might not be absolutely steady in pitch, either. (Luckily, it's not on the videos with problem 2.) Comb filters are supposed to take out the overtones or harmonics of the hum, but what filter tracks small variations in hum frequency (for example, due to slightly unsteady camera speed)?

I'm planning a new computer system to deal with these problems (as well as for the common applications), and I lean strongly toward a Mac, although with an Intel Mac, I think I could run a Windows application as a fall-back possibility.
