Ok First time here so not sure whether this is even in the right spot.
My son video tapes at the local race track, been doing it now for several weeks but when he taped the race two weeks ago the video came out pixelated (like when a satellite dish loses signal) halfway through. The problem is that he forgot to download the clips to the hard drive and now all we can use to fix it is the dvd that is already burned. I have tried several programs to try to fix this. Power director 7 was used for the edit but now will not open the saved project because the clips are not on the harddrive and the memory card was overwritten with the next race. I have tried video enhancer which after 30 plus hours of trying it did nothing. Also tried dvd rebuilder but everytime I start that program it comes up with some kind of error. Is is possible to re encode the disc itself to make it better. Been using the same discs (memorex lightscribe) with no problems with the earlier dvd's. I have the originally produced m2ts file when Power Director produced which seems to be where the pixelation started. Again when we produced
last weeks race it also came out pixelated when produced with Power Director 7, we fixed this one when we produced it in Nero no problem. What I really need to know is how I can fix the previous DVD. PLEASE any help would be greatly appreciated, we really need to fix these. I have been all over the internet looking for a solution and have tried several different programs but so far nothing has worked.[/b]

Can you fix that without having access the original text?

You will not be able to fix the exiting DVD. The data is corrupt, just like the above quote. Without access to the original data there is no way of knowing what should be there.

Switch to Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media.

It has nothing to do with the media as I just burned 20 plus dvd's from this week with the same discs without a problem. Power Director did not produce it correctly because the produced file is the one that is pixelated.

  4. you can extract the mpeg-2 from the dvd, and use that to try and fix it, but i don't think there's much hope.

use vob2mpg to get the video off the dvd. it doesn't do any encoding, it just changes the vobs back to mpeg-2. then you can import the mpeg-2 into whatever you want to try to fix it with.

I know, that's why I didn't suggest you try reading the disc in another computer (some drives are better than others at reading marginal discs). I just tossed the alternate suggestions in because Memorex media (which really means whatever cheap media Memorex bought recently and put their label on) is not reliable. Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are really the only consistently reliable producers of recordable DVD media.

If the data errors are very small (and you probably wouldn't be here asking for a fix if this was the case) there is some possibility of fixing them by using good pixels from nearby frames. But I don't know of any software that does this automatically.
