I'm fairly new to muxing and encoding MKVs, so I hope you can help out with a problem I have regarding some download files. I've already read that if there are too many reference frames and/or the profile is too high, it can cause image pixelation when viewed via certain players. Usually a re-encode with lower ref frames sorts the problem. I've got one particular one that won't though. It plays fine on the PC, but breaks-up on my Philips BDP7500 (which plays most MKVs). I've compared it with a similar MKV and can't work out what the difference is. Here is the MediaInfo for the files.

    Plays OK

All suggestions received. I've run it through both UncropMKV and Handbrake, but can't fix the pixelation on the BDP7500.

  2. A few hardware players that contain mediatek chips cannot decode weightp properly , which is enabled in the 2nd video, which might explain what you are seeing. If you are re-encoding , make sure you disable it

    --weightp 0

A very quick test is looking good. I'll try a few others I've got problems with too.

Yep, checked through the others I've had problems with and they all have a weightp of 1 or 2. Handbrake seems to encode with 2 by default. Did a 1-5% encode on these without weightp and no more problems. Thanks for the help

Just got to spend days re-encoding now...
