    Hi all,

I've captured a movie using the capture software included with my ATI Radeon AIW card. Instead of using the vcd setting included with the MMC software, I used the custom setting, which I got from one of the guides to the left. The end result looks pretty nice and all I want to do is cut it, so that it will fit onto a cd.

This is where I'm having problems - when I used tmpgenc to cut the movie, the audio in the finished mpg is out of synch. I've tried other software as well and the result is no better. To make matters worse, the audio seems to be out of synch at a constant rate and a gradual rate. I've tried various techniques and so far nothing has worked.

I'm simply wondering if anyone has any ideas and specifically anyone who may have faced this problem with video captured from the MMC software included with the AIW cards. The full movie is 933MB's and I'm not sure how I'm gonna get this to play on my DVD player. Any help would be a great!

I USE A PROGRAM CALLED VCDCUTTER, I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH DIRECT MMC CAPTURES USING ANY OTHER CUTTING SOFTWARE, BUT VCDCUTTER DOES THE TRICK EVERY TIME.

    Thanks sommersby,

Unfortunately I don't have vcdcutter and it's not in the budget right now, but I'll have to give it a try.

I don't thik it's that much, about $20, and I have never had an audio sync problem using it, and I have joined and cut up to 12 video segments and the sync has been perfect every time.

  5. Sometimes you need to run TMPGEnc to make it right. Make sure you are not running other things when you are doing this especially your CD-ROM drives...

If you want VCD Cutter -which you should because its a real nice simple mpeg editor that doesn't make you re-encode! take a look on www.kazaa.com there are a ton of the older versions out there to give you feel for how it works. Then if you like it you can buy it (or find it somewhere ) When it comes to ATI cards and tmpgenc cutting--its like oil and water--they don't mix! I hear so many people complain about sync problems (myself included) that i can't understand why people keep trying (myself included )

Now that I'm using MMC7.5 with my AIW Radeon, I recently tried to use tmpgenc for cutting/merge...and it now works. I went back to some captures (to vcd) I did just a few weeks ago (with 7.1) and it didn't work. I wasn't sure if it was the newer version of tmpgenc or not. I still have to do a simple dmux/mux, but that's only a few more minutes. To get my 1 hour captures from @650mg to @420mg without commercials, and using free software, is quite gratifying.

On the 933mg issue...unless you can get it down to 80 mins or get some 90min CDRs, you'll have to cut it in two peices to place on two CDRs. Even then, make sure you check the compatibility guides to see if your standalone will 1) Even play (x)(s)vcds, and 2) will it accept CDR(W)s or DVDR(W).

    Have a good one,

    Thanks everyone!

I found an old version of vcdcutter and was able to get it to work. The only bad thing about it is that if I cut a movie into two videos then the second one hangs after the first few seconds with every software vcd player I've tried. However, I can scan ahead a few seconds and it works fine and my dvd player doesn't seem to have this problem.

Menace I want to thank you for telling me about Kazaa. I haven't tried it as of yet, but it looks interesting. Every time I turn around it seems like there is a new file-sharing service which looks promising.

Neomaine I'm glad to hear this about the new MMC v7.5. I haven't gotten around to installing it yet and was hoping for some nice improvements. Out of curiosity, what are you using to remove the commercials?

    rogun:
Just a tip--run your cut mpeg through multiplex in tmpgenc after you get it all spiced together--you'll find it smooths out all the transitions (does for me anyways) if you can find vcdcutter4.04, its the best version yet--you may even get it off of me on kazaa

oh yeah, the multiples function is in the mpeg tools section. Good luck!!

Neomaine do you have a Radeon 8500 or are you using the MMC 7.5 software that was posted on subzerotech.com? I've been looking for a copy of MMC 7.5 and can't seem to find one now. Would you know where I could fine a copy?
