  1. hi
i am new here and my information is limitted
is there a cinverter to convert avi to mpeg 2 without lose?
i used to use allok video spliter and the output format was very good but since i worked on another pc the output format was rubbish......when i checked the output file its parameters was like this

    ID : 224 (0xE0)
    Format : MPEG Video
    Format version : Version 2
    Format profile : Main@Main
    Format settings, Matrix : Default
    Duration : 34s 520ms
    Bit rate mode : Variable
    Bit rate : 8 183 Kbps
    Nominal bit rate : 8 000 Kbps
    Width : 720 pixels
    Height : 576 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 1.111
    Frame rate : 25.000 fps
    Standard : NTSC
    Colorimetry : 4:2:0
    Scan type : Interlaced
Scan order : Top Field First
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.789

    where my origional file was

    ID : 224 (0xE0)
    Format : MPEG Video
    Format version : Version 2
    Format profile : Main@Main
    Format settings, Matrix : Default
    Duration : 13s 360ms
    Bit rate mode : Variable
    Bit rate : 4 255 Kbps
    Nominal bit rate : 5 184 Kbps
    Width : 720 pixels
    Height : 576 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 5/4
    Frame rate : 25.000 fps
    Standard : PAL
    Colorimetry : 4:2:0
    Scan type : Progressive
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.410

from it i concluded that both the scan type and video type (PAL and NTSC) has something to do with the quality
i use allok video splitter 1.8.0 and i cant find the setting

so please if anyone knows how to produce pal and Progressive Scan typed tell me

    thank you in advance

Wouldn'y VirtualDub's frameserver work well here?
There are no problems - only chances to excel.

  3. MPEG is a lossy compression format. It's impossible to convert anything to MPEG without some loss of quality. At high bitrates the losses my not be very visible though.

The stats of your source video say it's already MPEG 2 (MPEG 2 in AVI is rather unusual -- are you sure it's really an AVI file?). You should be able to simply remux that into an MPG program stream container with AviDemux. This would lead to no change in quality.

  4. the second infos are for the clip converted on another pc so i posted it as a comparsion only

however i have found an excellent program called all video splitter but the only problem is the output file has a sample rate of 44 KHz instead of 48 KHz although the origional file has 48 khz

can someone please explain this to me

Try good mpeg2 encoders like tmpgenc plus or tmpgenc xpress or hcenc with a gui like HCbatchGUI or AVStoDVD or AVStoMPEG.
