In working with a neighbor using winxp pro he has lost all of his customizing. He was using the Windows Classic theme and it appears to be completely missing. What he has looks similar to the Vista theme. All attempts to go back to the classic theme have failed. Even system restore did not work. Does anyone know anything about this problem?

Thanks for trying but it didn't work. Any attempt to get classic back results in an error "Visual themes not available"
The only color themes available are green blue nad silver. All the classic stuff seems to have been deleted. As mentioned before the various windows look very much like Vista.

  4. Format the computer and start over.

He might not even have to do that, I think themes falls under "windows optional components" in XP, just put the Windows installation CD in and go to "disc cleanup", and then go to install/delete windows optional components

When you get everything the way you want it, and to preclude this kind of problem, and others, make an image backup to an external HD.
