In working with a neighbor using winxp pro he has lost all of his customizing. He was using the Windows Classic theme and it appears to be completely missing. What he has looks similar to the Vista theme. All attempts to go back to the classic theme have failed. Even system restore did not work. Does anyone know anything about this problem?

Try this: Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Performance settings -> select Adjust for best performance
and save theme

Thanks for trying but it didn't work. Any attempt to get classic back results in an error "Visual themes not available"
The only color themes available are green blue nad silver. All the classic stuff seems to have been deleted. As mentioned before the various windows look very much like Vista. -
Format the computer and start over.

When you get everything the way you want it, and to preclude this kind of problem, and others, make an image backup to an external HD.
