    Hi

I have think to buy a Canon HV30 but a friend of my have a old Sony HDR FX1 that I can buy

So now I wonder if I going to buy a new Canon HV30 or a older Sony HDR FX1 (have not use in so many hour)

They are not in the same price class but technology is fast so maybe the little HV30 is better then HDR FX1??

I have try to read a little about and what I can see it is a BIG camera so maybe not so good idea to take with me everywhere.

but it look to be a very nice camera

I use both but haven't done a detailed side by side. The FX1 was Sony's first Prosumer HDV model back in 2005. It has 3 1/3" CCD for very good low light and color accuracy. The optics are better. The rest of the features are similar.

I'm surprised how good the HV20/30 is for the size and for a single sensor. It also matches most FX1 features like zebra pattern, exposure and manual audio control. The FX1 has more convenient controls. The HV has most settings buried in menus. The main advantages for the HV30 are size and the progressive modes which are lacking on the FX1. This may or may not be important to you.

So the FX1 is somewhat better for optics and low light. The HV does progressive and is smaller. Also a much lower price. A used FX1 still goes for close to $2000.

yes a little more then $2000 but I dont need to pay everything on the same time as I have to with the Canon HV30

so if the price dont matter, what camera shall I pick.

The FX1 feel more Prosumer and maybe have a better microphone.
What I have read that HV30 have not so good microphone built-in.

Yes but for serious work you would be adding external mics for both. See my other microphone threads.

This box allows adapting pro mics of all kinds to either camcorder.

The FX1 is a very nice camcorder if you can afford it.

well then I maybe going to buy it.

Was just afraid if that was maybe too old and not so good as the new one.

you have give me a nice link about adapting a microphone.

Do you know any good bag or case to the camera?

The FX1 is still current. The newer model is the V1 which is much more expensive.

I own a similar size SD Sony PD-150 and can rent/borrow an FX1 or Z1U for big projects. I use the HV20 for small projects and B-Roll but also carry it while traveling. The larger camcorders require an extra piece of luggage.

well yes but I mean other model. I can guess the newer model of that is very expensive.

But if I can buy the FX1 I going to have a very nice camrecorder.

Maybe not for travel but I have never think so much to use my camrecorder for that. Have a AIPTEK AHD200 to use that that I'm not so afraid of

If I could find a low use FX1 with low hours at the right price, I'd buy it.

The higher end Z1U had more features but sold for around $6000. The FX1 originally sold for $3950 list over here.

Here is a description of the HVR-V1 $4800 list.

Don't lust for higher or you may go broke.
