Does any know if I can playback mini-DV tapes that were recorded on a Canon XH-A1 camcorder in HDV on a Sony HDR-FX1 via firewire port - without getting digital noise?

no such thing as digital noise. you either have a signal to capture or not. and yes as long as the xh-a1 tapes were recorded in standard HDV 60i they will work fine in a sony. if they were 24p possibly not.
