I transfered (Captured) a DV AVI file from my camera to my PC using windows movie maker. I wanted to keep the orginal AVI format file so I has a "Orginal quality" like what's on the tape copy. When I play it back in Window Media Player I have combing from the interlacing of moving objects not being alligned. If I pay in in Windows Movie Maker is looks fine. If I convert the file when I capture it to NTSC I alssee no problems. Why don't the orgianl AVI files get interlaced correctly so they look like the lower res NTSC? Do I need to add some filter or codec setting? Thanks I'm new to DVI conversion world.

If you want to keep it in original quality it will always be interlaced. If you want to play it just on computers then make a new deinterlaced copy or use video players that can deinterlace like vlc media player.

And I'm moving you to our dv section.

Can Windows media player be setup to perform the proper deinterlacing? If I wanted to create a de-interlaced AVI file would that be possible or are AVI's always interlaced?

  4. computer monitors are progressive. that's why your video looks bad on the computer. software dvd players like powerdvd are better for interlaced sources on a computer.

what is the final output going to be used on? computer or for tv viewing?
    dvd?

I be outputting to HD displays like projectors and TVs. But I do use Windows Media player a lot. Can it be cofigured correctly?

As another thought should I just convert them to another format that will not show much degredation and just delete the AVI's?
