  1. I've been ripping movies for quite some time now, but there's one problem, in the Compression options for audio in Audio section in VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod, the MPEG-Layer 3(not the Lame MP3 Compression) doesn't have 48kHz options... And I don''t want to use the Lame writing application because, if I do, I can't Fast Forward it on my DVD Player... Is there a way to get the 48kHz option in the MPEG-Layer 3 of VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod or is there an audio converter which converts the audio from the Video file to mp3 without the Lame encoding? Like the audio used by aXXo??

  2. if your input audio was 44KHz, then you have to resample to 48KHz for those options to "appear"

audio (in full processing mode)=> conversion => sampling rate

  3. nope.. no luck... it's still only upto 24kHz... And the input is a DVD source so 48kHz...

  4. Do you have lame acm installed ? the MS version might not have that option

EDIT: actually it does, it's working here (both the normal version and lame acm mp3)

What does mediainfo say about your input audio? If it's a weird variant e.g. 3-channel audio, you have to downmix

  5. yes... and i dont want to encode using the Lame thingy because Fast Forwarding after 8x on my player becomes impossible after that...

It shouldn't make a difference on FF if you use lame vs generic mp3, especially if you use CBR

  7. well the writing application makes a difference alright... The DivX 2816 wouldn't allow FF beyond 4x and the same applies here...

  8. I guess your player might be "picky". Well having FF at 8x is better than no audio...

  9. it's very picky... :P
True, but heck, power cuts are frequent in this part of teh world, I can't forward at 4x till the end of a movie cuz it'll take atleast 20 mins...

  10. input audio is 48kHz by the way...

  11. But is it 2-ch standard 48Khz AC3? If not, some of the audio options won't "appear". e.g some foreign (foreign to North America)DVD's commonly use 3-ch audio

Also , did you check the "show all formats" box in the audio options?

  12. it is 2 channel audio... But regardless of the input format(I mean the channels) isn't it supposed to come?

  13. Did you check the "show all formats" box in the audio options?

You could try another audio encoder, then use avi-mux gui to swap the audio. But I don't know of any mp3 encoder that doesn't use lame for the back end

Also, are you sure the FF issues are caused by the audio, not the avi stream options (e.g. packed bitstream)?

  14. yes i did...

    well then... any ideas??

  15. any idea which audio encoder aXXo uses?? Cuz his rips FF at 32x on my player...

  16. I checked my old version of behappy (0.1.9) , you have the option of using fraunhofer mp3 or lame mp3...

You can use mediainfo (view=>text) and it will usually tell you the writing application (also check if it's packed bitstream)

  17. i'm sorry.. But whats all this??

  18. Mediainfo will tell you information about the file, eg. bitrate, some info about how it was created, some of the encoding options etc... If you emulate those settings, there is a higher chance you will get similar playback. Unless you are 100% certain that the audio is the culprit.

  19. I've tried... I've emulated everything I can... The video completely... The audio, I dunno where to begin...

that is aXXo's encoding settings for his audio....

Some software considers stereo to be 24kHz per channel, and it shows 24kHz as the only option. It's the same thing as 48kHz.

  22. are u ABSOLUTELY certain??

  23. lordsmurf said some software. Vdub does not. It shows up as 48KHz - Both with lame mp3 and the generic mp3

BTW, I'm fairly certain lame mp3 acm is being used in that file, not the MS MP3. I seriously doubt audio as the cause for FF incompatibility. It is more likely the video or stream settings.

I believe that is Microsoft's MP3 encoder (part of quartz.dll) and has nothing to do with VirtualDub. And that encoder simply doesn't support high sample rates or high bitrates. This is Microsofts way of promoting WMA.

Jagabo is correct. If you open a file that you created with the generic mp3 codec with VDub, under info, it will say Fraunhofer mp3.

If you use Lame, it will allow you to encode at 48000hz.

If you're worried about FF then just use the original ac3 audio.

Not sure how axxo encodes his files and couldn't say if I did since we're not allowed to talk about wares on this site.
