    Hi all,
    I
m converting vob dvd rips to wmv via tpmpeg, im making them 1.4gb from their orignal size,,ive set the resalution the same as input @ 720x576 and aspest ratio 1:1 square pixal (which i would asume is the same as the input) but the output seems to have much larger black bars and the video a bit squashed looking when i play it back from my pc,, if the video is 16:9 iv even tried setting the aspect ratio from 1:1 square pixal to 16:9 but it doesnt seem to help.hope you can help as i have a rake load of dvds that i want to put to hdd and want to do it right the first time.

    Thanks,
    Eao.

You can set a PAR in the encoder (don't know about TMPGEnc, though) so that the player does the resizing (and not all will do it), or (as I would recommend) resize it yourself to some real 1:1 ratio such as 624x352 (assuming a 16:9 DVD). If cropping away the black bars then the final resolution will most likely change.

Why anyone would purposely encode for WMV is beyond me.

Worse than all the people being too tall and too thin and round things looking oval shaped? Make it a larger 1.78:1 ratio then. How about 1024x576? I don't know what formats X-Box accepts, so someone else will have to help with that.

  5. I'd try 720x400. That's about 16:9 with square pixels and won't require resizing on the horizontal dimension.

WMV is perfect for the xbox 360.

It can do mp4 but it is very very picky about what types of mp4 it does.

Of course if you use something like tversity to stream to the xbox than you can encode pretty much to anything you want and the media server will transcode it to something the 360 can handle.

Just remember a wired lan connection is best for streaming video. WIFI G isn't practical. N may work well but I don't know if they make a xbox 360 compatible wireless N adapter yet or not.

EDIT - @ MANOMANO - I encode all the time to wmv for use on my zune. It works just fine. I wouldn't knock a format just because you don't personally use it. There is usually a use for something even if it might not be the latest craze.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
