I am simply frustrated and was wondering if someone can help me. I have wasted days using many programs...Tmpgenc DVD AUTHOR, Corel VideoStudio, Movie Edit Pro, and now DVD-LAB. And I still cant get my DVD player to play the MENU first before movie.

The menu shows up first fine on my PC, but when I put it in my dvd player, the movie plays first. I have to press TOP MENU/MENU button for it to show. I have a couple movies in it and I want to have it available for me to see first so I can select a certain one to play.

Does it have anything to do with the type of DVD player I have?

Or am I missing something in the programs I'm using to have the menu play first? I am using DVD-LAB at the moment. Thanks....

I guess other commercial dvds shows the menu first on your dvd player?
And you have connected the first play to the menu in dvd-lab?

Sorry GUYS for the repost, but I didnt get much answer from the other posts....

But yes to answer your question, Baldrick, the root menu (MENU 1) has been set to play first...

I just added 1 movie to MENU 1 but my DVD player plays the movie first..

  4. In my version of TMPGEnc DVD author (1.5.20.62) there is a box in the 'Create Menu' section that allows you to select the 'First play' action - either 'Display Main Menu', 'Play all tracks' or 'Play only first track'.
Selecting the first option makes the DVD start with the menu.
Maybe that option is not on your version?

  5. I would say the problem is the player if the menu shows up first on your PC.

Try it on another set-top player, if it goes to menu first, that would be conclusive.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

personally, I prefer them to actually just play the movie first...
thats why I inserted the disc...not to start finding the remote and start clicking to trigger the feature

you can go to menu anytime but I prefer it after the feature has run it's course

What I want is kinda similar, I like a main menu but I hate previews and menus that make noise, especially after the movie is over (which IMHO its rude on the part of the makers).

I want an EASY way to bypass the junk and get to the main menu, which I found a way, and also can show you how to just play the movie.

    DVDReMake (DRM) solution...

    1. Open the DVD in DRM.
    2. View the list of DVD junk on the left, there's a "domain" and "size" list.
    3. The first thing is Video Manager, inside that is First Play.
    4. Now find the biggest "domain" item, that is probably your movie. On mine, it's Video Title Set (VTS) 5. Inside that is something called Program Chains (PC) and Titles. Select PC, the right side of the screen lets you preview.
    5. When you have the right VTS, look under its Titles, you want the VMG# (mine says "Title 1 (vmg title 5)). This is the pointer to the actual video which we need to set in the first play.
    6. Go back to Video Manager / First play. The Pre Commands tell the DVD player what to do when the DVD is inserted. Remove the existing precommands and add a new one, "Jump VMG Title x" mine is 5.
    7. Export modified files. I like this because its quick if you need to do it again for some reason.
    8. Test. I drop the folder right onto Media Player Classic, it figures out what to do.

I've tested many programs like you did and finally found this one tonight, prolly be using it quite a bit from now on.

There's prolly an easier solution, like DVD2One says it will rip all but the main movie, but this should work, and can be used for other things if you wanted to keep the menus sometimes.

Using pgcedit for quick change of nav command.

    VMG, First-play PGC
Pre: Jump to VTSM 1, Root Menu (TTN1)

Number depends on TTN ? which contains required menu link.

Should stick at menu using the above no matter what plays it (some software players on pc are inferior)

pgcedit doesn't appear to have a graphical previewer.
pgcedit DOES have a graphical viewer after all, but has to be opened and closed manually on each VTS to view them. This makes it difficult to make quick changes.

PgcEdit does have a graphic preview. In the current version you can even enable the preview to play with sound (ac3 and lpcm).

To preview a menu, click on the big green menu button at the top after selecting the menu you want in the left pane.

To preview a movie segment, click on the big eye button at the top after selecting the video program chain you want in the left pane.

You could also view the video of each individual chapter/cell in the PGC Editor window.

Your guide is good and Remake is an excellent software. PGCEdit can do the same thing, but it is little harder to comprehend.
However if you want to bypass anything after movie come to end, than you have to fix post command of the movie to do that. If your menu or what you want to bypass is part of the movie, like credit display, than it involves cell command modification together with post command.

Thanks and yes, I was mostly responding to SeeNoEVO while sort of partially answering my own question. I found on this tool at the same time I was looking / asking about it.

I don't mind the ending credits, but when the movie ends, I (want to) make it jump to the main root menu, which I make still with no music.

Vidd - thanks, I'll edit my post now that I've found the preview button hidden on the toolbar.

I'm going to play with these tools a bit more and prolly ask questions in a new thread.

I do not know if you will still read this post, but if you want to go back to other than special menu, which is marked as Root, Chapters, Audio and so on, you will have to edit Post command to jump to one of these menus and using register value to link from there to where you want.

    Thanks tinker.

My system is rebooting during conversions, so I'm uninstalling some things and reinstalling audio/video drivers and codecs.

Rebooting due to big chunks of pet hair compressed up under the fan by my compressed air.
