  1. Does anyone know of a program that would get a signal from firewire or a video capture card and record it straight to DVD with out the need to re-render the video.... for Mac.
I found a program called 'Instant DVD Recorder' from Pinnacle which is perfect but it is for Windows. I have a MacBook Pro

You would do better with a stand alone DVD recorder.

Computer direct DVDR recording has always been unreliable. Firewire to DVD would require real time software MPeg2 encoding. The Mac has never supported this well. Mainconcept has the best real time MPeg2 software encoder.

  5. I've been doing test recording straight to DVD on with XP (bootcamp) but my system has frozen several times. I might be off better just recording to HDD in windows and the re-start on MAC and then burn the VIDEO_TS folder using toast. I'm impressed with this 'Instant DVD Recorder' it is doing a good job but disappointed that I have not found anything like that for mac.

I need something that would take no more than 10 minutes to have a DVD ready.

    Get a standalone DVDR recorder.

The El Gato Hybrid USB dongle captures in MPEG2 but wraps it in a proprietary container. However, once the recording is done, you may export it as TS (which take only a minute or two as it's maintaining the format but simply exporting it out of the proprietary container). Then you drop it on Toast and it's ready to author/burn (with no re-encoding necessary). I have one; it works.

But if you're looking for 10 minutes max, it might not be possible as it does take a certain amount of time to actually burn the disc, eh?
