First off, let me apologize to those who haven't been seeing me at my usual jovial self. I've had a little problem with this site lately.
I have been coming to this site for six years now, and I have learned a massive amount from here, as well as helped many people. I've actually settled exclusively into the helping mode.
Now my problem is the increasing number of, for lack of a better term, douchebags. They basically come in two categories (there's more than two caegories, but these two have appeared the most lately):
1. Blatant piracy/warez/criminals
Guys like this, this, this, this, this, and this 9(who actually falls into both categories)
I used to be simply "I downloaded this video Obvious_Piracy_Release_Group", but now cable theft?!
2. Newbies who shouldn't be newbies
People who should be "old timer", like this, this, and the guys mentioned in my post. Is someone remaking a forum-only version of "Night of the Living Dead"?
==========================================
I've been coming here all these years, and it seems that it's been the worst lately with these types of posts. Now, I won't get a brain hemorrhage or heart attack from this crap, so neither should you. I do, however, think that some of those "offenders" should read this post and get a clue, and maybe some of the old-timers should stop defending them.
I know that it seems like I have nothing better to do than sit at my PC and bitch about this stuff, but quite the contrary. It takes me the smallest portion of time to read and reply to these messages. In all, if I'm even on this site on any given day, I spend no more than 5-10 minutes total. I have a great job that gives me loads of free time that I mostly spend outside (in San Diego). I don't go out of my way to reply, it doesn't ruin my day, but (above all) I'm very opinionated. And it's even tougher for me, since most of my opinions are stone cold facts.
I really like this site because it has allowed me to be both student and teacher. I'm all for helping people out and "spreading the word", but if the word is "VH: The #1 source of illegal activity" or "VH: over 8 years without learning a damn thing", then I'd rather not help.
So the next time that you want to play dvil's advocate, remember that it will automatically put you on my side

	I have noticed the same trend that you have but Im not sure why it bothers you so much. Just dont reply, seems easy enough. In the link examples you gave, it seems like your only reason for responding was to throw a jab in. Why bother?

 I read tons of posts that I just cringe at. Once Im done cringing, I click back and move on.

 Might want to exercise some "not caring-ness" to these posts. Just a suggestion my friend.

 If you're hurting their feelings, **** 'em... This is a legitimate site. There are countless sites that can't make that claim where they can find their answers. If those sites want to risk legal trouble good for them. Whatever. This is a legitimate site.

 My issue is that when I see the posts that are openly asking about warez or how to pirate and I hit the "Report Post" button, the threads remain open and they even wind up getting answered."To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright
 "Megalomaniacal, and harder than the rest!"

	That's the thing, it doesn't bother me "so much". You say that some of them make you cringe? Well, my version of cringing is "**** you". Some of these irritate us a bit, and we have different reactions. Sometimes a little verbal fencing can be entertaining.Originally Posted by Lucifers_Ghost
 Replying is no big deal. Like I said, I spend little time here, so none of these are going into great expositions. Plus, it's about the only board that I frequent these days.
 As far as taking jabs at people, they are fully warranted. It's pretty lame that many people who can help, who happen to be "Front Pagers" (those who respond/read posts on the front page), don't get to see the real questions because people who have been here 5-7 years are flooding the boards with basic, n00b questions.

	It is only people that cannot take a hint that this site is not a microwave repair location that gets on my nerves. I often wonder why certain people do not research and then do not like the answer, when they cannot be bothered to try something for themselves, or look something up.

 Somewhere along the line, they felt like they were entitled to be lazy. We had to learn how to manipulate video. What makes them any different?Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

	Now you feel a small amount of the pain I have felt dealing with people asking the same old in the Computer forum

 I could probably bucket 80% of posts in there to about 6-8 different common topics but yet people still post their own version. I stopped pointing out the search feature when I learned its futility. The ones that still get under my skin are the "OMGRAID0ISSOFASTHAX!!1!" and "Why doesn't my stupidly-expensive GPU let me encode [pirated] video content faster?"

	One of my favorite sites lately has been www.letmegooglethatforyou.com -- I used to save that for people I didn't like, but lately I've been using it for friends and family too.

 I would prefer somebody call me and say
 "I want to do XYZ, and I read that ABC, DEF, and GHI are some options -- what do you think I should do?"
 instead of
 "How can I do XYZ?"
 because I hate having to explain basics over and over again, when its so easy to find info on.

 I still help folks here, but I post less, answer shorter, reply mostly to e-mail and PM, and spend my time in other locations.

 This is also "stupid season" where somebody just got a burner for Christmas, and wants to do something stupid (copy rentals, try to make something impossible or unfeasible, etc).Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

	I have no clue what you are blathering about, nor do I care. If you want to enable lazy people, then by all means go ahead. Normally you do not approach a doctor and ask him to teach you years worth of material in 10 minutes. I work with video as a hobby. Some people do this work for a living. They tend to get insulted, when people cannot be bothered to do research. People would be better off if they cut out the lazy act and entitlement. They expect you to do their research and their work for them, instead of doing something "crazy", such as trying something for themselves and learning.Originally Posted by M BrunerBelieving yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

	But is there still an opening in ICU?

 ===========================

 BTW, two of my biggest pet peeves in one sentence.

 1. Improper syntax/wording. It should be "Guess there's still an opening in the hospital ICU?" the original is as redundant as "Can you unclog the clog in the sink?"

 2. Comparing apples to hand grenades: Comparing not helping someone rip a disc or encode to iPod to ignoring an ICU patient is the same as saying "You downloaded a song that you did pay for? Well, I guess you have no problem breaking into someone's home and stealing their computer (and other valuables)!"
