    Hi,

I'm curious if anybody knows of any video editing software that would allow me to "script" edits rather than using cut and paste on a timeline. Something in which I could just write the timecodes down in a script and then compile a video from that script. For example:

    00:25:10 - 00:30:41
    00:45:12 - 00:46:76
    etc..

    Thanks,

    Dan

There is software that retains this info between programs, but I've not heard of anything that could take number values and batch chop up a video.

There may be an AVISynth script that could do it. maybe.

  3. Any editing software than can import EDLs should be able to do this. Just create the EDL in a text editor. When you open it in the NLE, it will (should?) ask for the media - you just point it at your video file.

Vegas can be scripted, too, so it may be able to do it via a suitable script.

BTW, what video format? Are you wanting to use the true timecode embedded in the source video or just a relative timecode starting from 00:00:00:00?

  4. If you look at ComSkip, it is based on this concept. Lists several MPG cutters that will work with a scripted edit file, or Edit Decision List. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a standard format for this file. CutterMaran, VideoRedo, and MPG2Cut are all listed. I use Mpg2Cut.

mencoder will do that as it can accept .edl input which is a list of start/end time to remove from the video.
