What converting software are you using? Am mostly looking for a software that can take any codec/filetype.

If you want higher quality and more control, the individual programs are a better choice.
I use VirtualDub (Mod), Ripbot264, ConvertXToDVD, FAVC, AVISynth, and DVD Shrink regularly, along with quite a few other programs that are sometimes needed for the encoding/conversion/authoring and other video processes. A lot depends on what your final output type is, along with what your source video type is. -
Like olyteddy: My first choice is Mediacoder, then VirtualDub. That's all I want to convert, transcode and edit video files.
