I have a problem with 4:3 video playback. When I switch my computer resolution to 1920X1080, and try to play 4:3 videos, 2 black vertical bars are present on the left and right side of the video (like the black bars on 16:9 videos except instead of top and bottom they are on the left and right). However, when I switch my computer to 1600X1200 resolution the 4:3 videos play properly with no black bars.
I have tried playing around with FFDshow but have had no success.
If anyone knows how to fix this without having to constantly switch back to 1600X1200 resolution I would gladly appreciate the help.
In case it helps my OS is vista home premium 32bit, graphics card is nvidia 9800gt, i am using the current version of the k-lite codec pack, and i am using my Samsung LN40A550 tv as my monitor
Thanks!

If you play 4:3 material in a 16:9 resolution(1920x1080) you will get black bars left and right or else would the picture be stretched. If you don't like this you could zoom the picture(crop top and bottom), try vlc media player, mpc, zoom player, kmplayer.

But do you have a 16:9 monitor? what is the standard resolution for it?

What's the problem? You're watching a 4:3 video on a 16:9 TV set. There are supposed to be black bars on the right and left sides.Originally Posted by pantyryder69

I had no idea that was supposed to happen..I thought the video would just get stretched to fill the screenOriginally Posted by manono ..I guess that's what I am looking for..a way to stretch the image so that the black bars are no longer present without having to switch my computer's resolution ..I guess that's what I am looking for..a way to stretch the image so that the black bars are no longer present without having to switch my computer's resolution

You don't want to do stretch the image. It will become distorted. Circles look like ellipses. Skinny people look fat (e.g Halle Berry now looks like OprahOriginally Posted by pantyryder69 ) )

Thanks for all the replys. I'll try out some of the players you guys listed but i have a feeling I'll just switch resolutions so my videos don't look all distorted

 Thanks again!

But then other resolutions will be distorted. A 4:3 video cannot fill a 16:9 screen without distortion. Conversely, a 16:9 video cannot fill a 4:3 screen with out distortion.Originally Posted by pantyryder69

Just live with the fact that 4:3 video will never fill your 16x9 monitor ... just the way it is. Accept it instead of agonizing over it.
