I found an old webcam and I was wondering if anyone here could recommend some good video conference software.

I also have an old VHS camcorder. I was wondering if I could hook that up to my capture card and use it for video conference also. Software recommendations for that would be helpful too.

I've done some research on my own, but most of what's available is for teeny-bopper web chats. I was looking for a host of uses ranging from webcams to security cams to vid conference. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

  2. video conference is a serious business and old webcam with USB1 won't do it. Its only good for messenger stuff. For serious Video conferencing look into Polycom type of stuff.
Or just buy a good webcam like logitec 9000 or something and use Skype or messenger yahoo type. The frame rate on these is not for business it is only for family fun. When web cams came out they had these kind of programs but you needed to know the ip address of both parties etc now the only affordable is the free messenger otherwise it gets into something like VOIP (voice over ip) or video feed stuff ....

    This actually looks pretty cool...
    http://www.mebeam.com/

In case someone else was searching for something. It allows for multi-party video conference and requires no software, only a flash enabled web browser. Plugins also allow it to work with many messenger clients.

    Pretty cool.

I take it back about mebeam.com. When i tried to do any testing there, I found rooms full perverts with their cams pointed at their laps...

Ended up using Yahoo messenger with video (under windows). You can make your cam available for viewing and initiate a call from PC to PC. Not tested for groups yet.

Have to recommend a tool called ManyCam... it's too cool to go into here... an amazing piece of freeware. With ManyCam, you don't even need a webcam to join a video conference.
