Hey Guys,
My office is planning to renovate the briefing room and install ceiling type lighting for seminar and press conference video recording. Before I approach lighting contractors for quotation, what kind of lighting I need to have ? Tota, Fresnel or something else ? The room is 500-800 sq feet with small stage and podium, 12 ft heigh ceiling. No entertainment performance, only reserve for briefing, seminar and press conference.
Any idea for me ?
Thanks.

Modern cameras don't need too much wattage. At a minimum you need medium bright flat lighting from the front on a dimmer (this sets black level). The press usually bring their own key lights for podium (controls contrast). If you want to get fancy, add a backlight above and behind with dimmer to provide a hair-shoulder outline, and if a political candidate add an eye light to make them look star likeOriginally Posted by AAC
. Best to ask local media what they would like.

The backlight separates the person from the background.

For news conferences, you're not doing anything artsy, and you may need to light more than one subject. A couple of soft fills will give you a pleasant, even wash of light. Check out the Altman Soft-Lite at bhphotovideo.com.
And yes, the news crews usually bring their own lights.
You will also need to feed audio to multiple sources. Whirlwind and PSC make nice newsbridge / press box units. -
Most of the time, we are running academic seminars and required video recording.
Is soft light still applicable ?
