I have a DVD that has audio that is slightly out of synch. We're talking about 170 miliseconds here, pretty small difference but it's annoying me.

The VOB files have been ripped onto my computer and now I'm trying to find the right software to just delay the audio without re-authoring or re-encoding the entire movie so that I can burn the VOBs back to a DVDR.

I'm currently doing it the long way (putting it through TMPGEnc DVD Author) while I continue to search for the secret of quickly changing the audio delay to all the VOB files as a whole, and nothing more.

I've tried several different programs but just couldn't find a simple solution, and I'm starting to think there isn't one. If anyone could suggest a program or two or point me in the direction of a guide I'd be very relieved. And yes, I've tried searching this site and the rest of the web for this elusive simple task.

You may be better off using a program like VOB2MPG to rip the whole DVD to a single MPG file, then demuxing the audio and applying a audio offset. You will lose menus this way, but it should be easier. This is assuming the audio sync was messed up before authoring. If each VOB has a different sync error, this could get complicated.

What format is the audio in?

    And welcome to our forums.

Audio is AC3. The audio sync must have been a little off before it was made into all the VOBs. DVD Author at least lets me set the audio delay, and in turn I can make a better menu with it than what it originally had.

It's just a job I'll have to let work overnight while I'm sleeping. Thanks for the input though!

  4. 1. Demux the problem video from the DVD (PGCDemux)
    2. Remove the delay (DelayCut, or fix it when reauthoring)
    3. Reauthor (Muxman, not forgetting to load the chapter points - Celltimes.txt - in File->Import Chapters)
    4. Replace the fixed video back into the original using the Replace button of VobBlanker.

What i do is use tda to extract to dvd files to mpg then use tmpg to demux the mpg and then load the m2v into virtualdubmod and convert the ac3 to wav with goldwave and insert the wav into virtualdubmod and adjust the delay after i find the right amount after playing in vdub and then save wav as.

After doing this i reauthor the m2v with the new wav and test and burn. You can use other extractors and convertors but i find using vdub the best way to align the audio to video by incremental adjusting and playing.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

DelayCut removes the delay and gives it back to you as AC3 audio, the same kind of audio that you opened originally. Start making sense.

Autogk should fix this automatically. Did you open the vtsxxxx.ifo file when converted using autogk? Don't just open the vob file as you may get sync problems then.
