  1. Hello,
I'm very new to this DVD to VCD ripping stuff. I was told to use:
    SmartRipper 241
    DVDx 1.6
    VCDimage
Some of the movies copy fine, although it does take 6 hour per movie. I'm using a Pent 4 1.7 g with 512 mem. The CPU is at max the whole time.
The problem is while using SmatRipper, some of the DVD give me an error. ( Files locked ) Is there any way around this?
Also, is there a better, faster way of doing this getting the best quality I can?
Sorry to be a pest, we were all new at some point. :-?
Please e-mail a reply if you can.

  2. I'm presuming you either using Windows2000 or WindowsXP, both do not have an ASPI Layer included, which gives both ripping and authoring programs a problem when attempting to access the hardware, you must have an operational and updated ASPI Layer installed.

  3. Oddly, I've never had any problem with Smartripper or CDRDAO working in XP, and I've never done anything special beyond the default installation. I would venture to say that Windows XP does install an ASPI layer if it detects a CD-recorder in the system? Thus, I would be interested to hear others' experiences in this regard.

  4. kinneera, I don't know how it never happened to you, but just about EVERY user of XP I know of, asked me to send them ASPI Layer Installation, and they had a CDRW drive in their system.

XP installs a substitute for ASPI, but ALOT of old programs don't work with it, and among your defeault installations, you might have installed an ASPI with out even relieasing it.
