I found some audio samples online: eg: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/sounds/idreamofjeannie1968.wav
Though they have a .wav extension, they appear to be some kind of MP3 file.
I can't open them directly in Audacity, for instance.
Though I can stream them with MPC and make a new file, I wonder if there is a way to patch them or build new headers so they are normal MP3 files, without reencoding?

From media info
General #0
Complete name : F:\Captures\idreamofjeannie1968.wav
File size : 116 KiB
PlayTime : 47s 404ms
Bit rate : 20 Kbps
Audio #0
Codec : MPEG-2.5 Audio layer 3
Bit rate : 20 Kbps
Bit rate mode : VBR
Channel(s) : 1 channel
Sampling rate : 11 KHz

I don't know what Audacity's problem is, but it opens fine in Sound Forge, and if you change the extension to .mp3 then MP3DirectCut will also happily work with it.Read my blog here.
