I've found various guides that describe how to remove a logo from an MPG stream using VirtualDubMOD and LogoAway, but they all seem to require re-encoding the stream.

Is it possible to remove the logo from an MPEG2 video stream without re-encoding?

    I don't believe so.

Hoever logoremoving is not as glamorous as it sounds. I tried it awhile back. It leaves a watery afterimage at best when removed. Any time you see a miraculous photo of a removed logo on a webpage remember a still can mask the distortions you'll see on a moving image.

Worse yet is if it is a relatively large logo or the killer of them all is a ROTATING logo. Those leave a bigger mess when removed.

And don't think it will be easy to remove those anyone pop up ads during shows either. You'd have to most likely edit out those individual sections and then reencode the entire video and hope it stays in sync.

I'm not saying to not try removing a logo. All I'm saying is be realistic about. The tv stations put them their for a reason - to id themselves or to advertise an upcoming show or an event. It is difficult to remove them and the results are probably not worth the effort in most cases.

By the way these days DVD and BLURAY releases are so fast for tv shows that you'll be able to get them before the next season comes on the air so waiting to buy the official CLEAN copy may be the best case scenario.

Only if it was applied as a subtitle. Which means it wasn't part of the video stream, but I've seen quite a few that were really forced subtitles which for all intents and purposes seemed to be encoded into the video until I investigated further. As yoda313 says, removing them takes some skill and the results aren't always that good.
