Are you using the usb port to capture? Try instead the firewire/i.link connection.

If you have an HDMI port on your PC it'll be for video out, not to import video.

Yonut, MozartMan knows you want HDV (i.e. high definition), but was asking if your FX7 was unintentionally set for DV (standard definition) output. Did you check it? Also, did you try capturing with HDVSplit?

The HDR-FX7 can:
Record 720x480i DV and output 720x480i DV. Use WinDV to capture.
Record 1440x1080i HDV and output 720x480i DV. Use WinDV to capture.
Record 1440x1080i HDV and output 1440x1080i HDV. Use HDVSplit to capture.
Find camcorder settings instructions in your manual.
Corel VideoStudio 12 does not support HDV. You need Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 or Corel VideoStudio 11 Plus.

Mozartman, edDV, and myself have tried to address the issue of the camcorder's menu setting for the firewire output to the computer -- NOT the record mode! (There is a difference.) There is also a question about capture, especially with VideoStudio, which it looks like you may be starting to address. But you never once said whether you tried HDVSplit or not.
I'm sorry, but it gets frustrating posting and re-posting the same advice and having it misunderstood, ignored, or debated. It's like talking to a brick wall.
