Can you drop one of the VOBs from the authored file into Gspot or MediaInfo? That should tell you if the audio is really missing or just in the wrong format or wrong specification. You can also try playing one of the VOBs back with VLC Media Player and see if the audio shows up. If so, check the audio format.

I am also curious about what authoring program you used? Most would tell you if there is a audio problem.

If you have PCM audio, it should play back fine on a DVD. PCM, AC3 and MPEG 1, layer 2 are all valid DVD audio formats. PCM isn't used as much as it takes up a lot of space, compared to the other formats.

I don't use Adobe Premiere or Encore, so not much help there. But unless there is something really wrong with your audio, any of the mentioned audio formats should work on a DVD.

You might try a trial version of ConvertXToDVD or even FAVC and see if they can encode and author a DVD from your original DV files. If so, then there may be a problem with Premiere or Encore. Maybe just a setting.

And this may be obvious, but have you tried playing back the DVD on another settop player or on your computer? You may have mentioned that already, so just asking.

And sorry, this isn't advanced video conversion. Moving you to the Authoring (DVD) Forum.

  6. So you have in preferences audio in MP2 format? It's not valid format for NTSC DVD: AC3 and LPCM only, even many standalone players support it. MP2 is OK for PAL. Perhaps thus Encore makes something wrong during muxing.
