Just installed XviD4PSP to try to get this monster mkv file (opening ceremonies in HD) cut down to something a bit smaller. While opening the mkv file in the app, the little Caching...Please wait...Work in progress dialog has been doing its thing for over 45 minutes...that doesn't seem right.

The mkv file is on an external firewire hdd, with ~180gb of free space on that same drive. My two internal hdd partitions have ~1.5gb and 3gb free space. When I first ran XviD4PSP, it suggested and I selected the external hdd for its temp files.

I don't see much if any hdd activity on any of the drive lights.

Any suggestions to get this thing moving along?

    Thanks!
    Gary

You could try reconvert/cut using avidemux also.

You really should free up disk space on your internal drive / partitions - especially the one your OS is on. Move some stuff off of them and on to your external. Use the external for storage as well, you have plenty of space on it. Think about adding another internal drive or increasing the size of the one you do have.

I wager you are slowing your drive and total system performance down by running so full. No room for swapfile or temp files to grow and expand. Especially if you have not changed the swapfile settings from OS defaults. No room to even install another program. Your defrag must be having a nightmare with so little space to move files about. Vista can be a hog to begin with. Give it some room to maneuver.

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the suggestions.

BTW, just updated my profile's computer details. I "upgraded" back to XP last year, after a month with Vista. Also bumped up my ram, but yes, I do realize I'm walking a tightrope with such little free disk space. I'll see what I can free up, but I don't know about buying another internal hdd...storage is just so darn expensive these days!
