Cutting HD files

I would like to cut out scenes from HD videofiles. There is a program asfbin and cut assistant which wil cut out the scenes and make the same output file quality, so no conversion or whatever. This can be done with HD WMV files. I have also M2ts files which i want to cut scenes out. This cannot be done with cut assistant because he doesn't show me the video, maybe i don't have the right codecs for M2ts. I only have ffdshow installed.

Is there a simple free program which i can cut out the scenes of HD material?

the program i've been using for cutting HD content is mkvmerge. unfortunately, it gives an error when you try to load an .m2ts file.
(not sure how it handles HD WMV files.) so now, an extra step will be involved. using tsMuxer you can demux the video & audio and then use mkvmerge to throw these demuxed files into a .mkv container which you can then cut to your liking. (i know this works, took a blu-ray rip of 28 days later, spliced the original ending into the movie.)
(don't know how to do this? do this: in tsMuxer, after you've chosen the video/audio/sub you wish to demux, you'll see multiple options under Output: TS muxing, M2TS muxing, Blu-ray, etc. just use "Demux" at the far right. your resulting files will just be something like "track_4113.264" (video) and "track_435" (audio) for example. just drop these into mkvmerge and mux 'em!)

then with mkvmerge you get the option to either just split your file after a set size amount, at a certain time duration, or at multiple timecodes (look under the Global tab.)

there maybe faster/easier ways to achieve what you want, but here's one option...
