Hello,
novice here, wondering if anything new out there that might allow me to convert DRM WMV to either mpeg, mov, burn to dvd via idvd, or burn to vcd via Toast. Searched forums and most recent posts seem to be at least yr & a half old. Running Leopard on fairly new iMac. Any help much appreciated.
thanks,
B

There is a windows program called fairuse4w. I don't know if there is a mac version available. I'd suggest doing a web search for fairuse and mac in the same search phrase and see what you find. Good luck. I don't know how many apps support wmv on the mac as it is really a windows format (although yes i know quicktime is widely available on windows also so anything is possible these days).

You would still need the license to view the WMV, to be able to do anything with it. Unfortunately, as far as I'm aware, there's still no support for DRM WMV/WMA on a Mac, so you'll have to use a Windows machine to view/convert the file.

thanks guys, I have access to a windows machine, would it be possible to just drag & drop the file into an external dvd burner?
-
you would need to drag and drop it onto something that can author it
on the windows side. I have used Nero Suite 7 on the PC
through Parallels for this. Works fine....."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

thanks TerryJ,
machine I have access to is Dell Xp running Vista, how would I do this, and what about DRM removal via something like this: http://www.wmatomp3-converter.com/digital-media-converter.html (says it works w/mac also). -
Well by the looks of the link it is an audio converter. Wma is windows media audio - a form of digital audio in the format .wma. This is a converter to mp3 given the link you showed.
You'd need something that handles wmv which is windows media VIDEO. Again try fairuse4w but your success will depend on what the most recent release can break.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I believe FairUse (as well as most of the other programs like it) does require the license file for the video, so you'll also need to play it properly at least once on the Windows machine to have that license file generated.

Ai is correct. I usually play the video file in WMP first completely,
and then drag and drop it into Nero to author to disc."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

ok I'll give it a shot, thanks for all the timely replies. One thing I forgot to mention: does size of file matter as long as it's not ridiculously huge? File in question here is right around 1.27G.
-
only thing that would pertain to is your available Hard Drive space.
If the wmv is 1.27Gb, you'll need at least 3 times that as available
scratch disc space to transcode the file to mpeg-2 in authoring."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."
