It would depend on the player. Assuming a set top player, what brand and model? The operating manual should tell you which formats will work. You could look here for methods of adding subtitles to a DVD: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic338721.html That will give you some information on compatible DVD sub formats.
If you have a disc image, then you would have to extract the DVD video if you wanted to add subs. Or just try playing back the image with VLC media player. If it has subs, VLC should see them.
You need to give more information on what you want to do and what player you have before anyone can give specific information or answers.
And welcome to our forums. -
Do you mean a standard DVD-Video disk? Is so, this has nothing to do with your player, the standards are set. The limiting factor is really what your authoring program will accept.
If you mean AVI files, such as Xvid, Divx, or whatever, your manual or the player manufacturer's website would have the answer. A software tool is not going to tell you much about your DVD player, unless you have one of these DVD players that boots some sort of operating system.
Describe just how it is you "know" a disk image. Do you mean in the Biblical sense?
