I am trying to put an .avi file on DVD using DVD FLick. I used to use NERO but no longer have that product. Anyhow, when I create the DVD files using DVD Flick, and try to play it on my player (U.S.) I get a region protection error. Never had this before and the .avi file certainly didn't have a region encoding on it unless my panasonic home video camera mysteriously got one last week

Any ideas? Or any other shareware that can put .avi files to DVD without this region error (I am assuming it's a DVD Flick issue)

I'm guessing your video is PAL format, not NTSC. Check the framerate on one of the VOBs with Gspot or similar. Burned DVDs don't have regions unless you put them in, which would be unusual. Players may give the 'region' error if the framerate is wrong.

You can use a program like ConvertXToDVD or FAVC to convert the framerate. Or DVD Flick probably has that option.

DVD Flick does. Use the latest beta version if you are going to use DVD Flcik to do this, as it uses the pulldown method. I don't believe the current release does this.

Otherwise use FAVC, which has used the pulldown method for some time, possibly since inception.

  4. DVDFlick defaults to PAL output,as mentioned you need to go to Project Settings and make sure it outputs NTSC:

You are RIGHT ON as far as it defaulting to PAL. I am going to try changing it to NTSC tonight and giving it a try. Hope that's it. I'll let ya know and as always...thanks!

Thanks to all! It was absolutely the fact that DVDflick defaults to PAL. Once I changed that, it burned fine. Had nothing to do with the region coding.

Good deal. That problem is also fairly common with videos off the net. You really need to check on the framerate before and after converting if you are having similar problems.

Not surprised it was the PAL encoding at fault...

My Sony player gives the "playback prohibited due to region limitations" message on PAL discs even when they have no region coding on them at all!
