  1. Whenever I choose a picture as wallpaper in my WinXP desktop the description has a fixed color background as shown in the screenshot below:


    How can I get rid of the green background so that the icon letters lay directly on top of the wallpaper in a transparent fashion? Thanks

    the desktop setting is found by right clicking my computer/properties/advanced/performance/settings/visual effects - either select adjust for best appearance or at least make sure use translucent selection rectangle is checked.

  3. As per aedipuss but check "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" if you mean you want all icons to have transparent text, not just highlighted ones.

  4. aedipuss, thanks but that did not change it. Anyway it's cool to know that I can access visual settings using your suggested route. I was always trying to unsuccessfully change this by rightclicking the desktop/Properties/Appearance.
    JohnnyMalaria, that worked great. Now my desktop icons look great! Here is a screenshot of the same icon after the setting change:
