  1. Hi all,

I have XP home (recently installed service pack 3), a pinnacle PCTV HD capture care, and I use GBPVR to schedule/record all my HD shows via OTA antenna. I have the option of recording to MPEG, TS or DVR-MS. I've been using DVR-MS. This setup works great for me with my PC connected to my plasma via HDMI. However, on rare occasions I try to be nice and burn a DVD of a show for a friend.

My latest project has been trying to burn the season finale of Smallville. If I use DVD Flick, the entire soundtrack is completely and terribly out of sync even though my MPEG is in perfect sync. I've also tried GUIforDVDauthor which seems to create VOBs that all play in PowerDVD and are perfectly in sync if I play them one at a time. However, playback of this as a dvd is great for the 1st 30 minutes then it just freezes - won't play, can't skip chapters, etc...

After researching, I've tried PVAStrumento to "fix" the mpeg, but that just produces a file with no audio whatsoever. Converting to avi/divx produces more out of sync garbage. What's interesting is that I have successfully converted previous DVR-MS files to MPEG (audio & video still in perfect sync) and then authored them with DVD Flick, and fit to DVD with DVD Shrink, but the sound was out of sync within the last 5-10 minutes. I can't figure that one out, either.

The only thing that's different from then to now is the install of XP SP3. Does SP3 install/configure/change somthing within the encoders? If anybody can recommend some useful tools or tips, I appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Mattman

Maybe try fix the mpegs with videoredo(Using the quickstream fix) and then author them. Or use tmpgenc dvd author to import dvr-ms directly. But I guess you only want free tools...

  3. Free is ideal since I won't be doing this too often. I tried VideoRedo a few years ago so I'm not sure I could reload it for a free trial or not. I guess I can try.

  4. I recorded test files in mpeg & ts last night. I ran the mpeg file through DVD Flick and had the typical out of sync issues. It didn't even load into GUIforDVDAuthor. The ts file, however, was run through HDTV2DVD. It produced an excellent DVD in sync. I guess I know which format I'll be recording in from here on out. Of course, I still have my original problem of somehow converting Smallville from an MPEG.
