Thank you in advance for any assistance I may receive. I only have cursory knowledge of video/audio and my own research has not resulted in any solutions. Here is the problem.

I have a video file that I downloaded where the video plays fine but the audio does not play. I did not create or convert the file, hence I do not have any source information. The file is an AVI and the video codec is DX50/divx. I used the application "G-Spot", and it stated the video is using the audio codec "0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3" and it also stated that the codec is installed on my system. I have attempted to play the file in RealPlayer, WMP, and VLC with the same result, no audio. Other files on my system that use MP3 audio play without any issues. I have uninstalled, reinstalled codecs to no avail.

Upon attempting to render the audio in G-Spot, the information provided under "Proposed Codec Solutions and Tests" states:

Failed to connect Output pin 0x06db6df4 ("Audio 1") on Avi Splitter to input pin 0x06c3dc ("In") on filter 0x01f23267 ("ffdshow Audio Decoder"). ConnectDirect() failed. Error: 0x80040207: There is no common media type between these pins.

Here are some further details, there is not a low hum, hiss, muffle, or anything of that nature. I mention this because I did some reading about the application Sound Forge and came away with the impression that it would be able to fix issues such as that but not an issue where the audio track is completely not audible. Is there a tool, application that I can use to restore the audio of this file? Thank you.

    Other G-Spot information:

    Container
    File Length Correct
    Divx Style "packed bitstream" AVI
    AVI v1.0
    Interleave: 1 vid frame (33ms), preload=522
    Audio frames: Split across interleaves
    Video: 43.1 MB (87.55%)
    Audio: 5.62 MB (11.41%)
    AVI Overhead: 526 KB (1.04%)

I suspect the file is corrupt. Since VLC also can't play the file, you don't likely have a codec issue as VLC uses it own. Find another copy of the file.
