Does anyone remember the name of the program that find all the selected entries in the winxp registry.
The old method of finding entries one at a time using the F3 key can be extremely time consuming.

    JV16 Power Tools?

I used to use that quite a bit, to delete dead/obsolete registry entries. But as always be certain of what you're deleting. I remember it always wanting to delete a certain movie file format .XXX extension for some reason. IOW, don't just delete based on it's designation of priority levels of entries and what not from the scans.

Oh, and are you looking for a particular set of entries, or as I was describing wiping out all useless stuff? I don't recall whether jv16 allowed for searching for certain key names/entries or not.

[edit] And macecraft also has a registry specific program called Reg Supreme as well. jv16 PT is more of a jack-of-all-trades type of program - more than just registry scanner/cleaner. And there's also the precursor to jv16/RS, called RegCleaner, freeware. You can find it via google. As to whether or not it will work w/ more modern multi core CPUs or not, I can't say (they do mention it not working on dual CPU [socket I assume, again no idea on the dual core aspect] systems and P4s w/ HT though).

    To kush,

Thanks for your reply. The jv16 power tools is more a registry cleaner. What I was looking for was a fancy editor. I think the name of it was regscanner or something similar.

Iīm using RegScanner from http://www.nirsoft.net for this.
    Itīs Freeware !

You can search in the whole registry, or only in different keys and then let the program create an delete file (un-reg)
Of course you have the choice activate / deactivate the entries. And to make a backup before deleting.

It also has the choice to go from every found entry directly to the registry entry (open reg entry)

    To NoBuddy,

That is it. Thanks for the tip. We are trying to get rid of Norton Utilities in the registry. There must be hundreds of entries that ordinary means won't get rid of. I think regscanner will help a whole bunch.

    mysts:
but keep in mind, that most of Norton entries will be under the name of Symantec !

Maybe itīs also a good idea, to run the Norton Removal tool first.

    Hello again,

Been there, done that. What remains are remnants distributed all over the registry. The Norton Removal tool does not remove all of Norton or Symantec entries. Thanks for your help though.
