I’m converting animated avi clips to mpeg2 using TMPGEnc so I can author them onto a dvd. I have 60 mpegs, each one min long. I don’t know if I should use CBR or VBR, or one pass or 2 pass. I want a good quality file like the original AVI but don’t want a huge file size. What mpeg2 output settings should I use? I’d like to have a good quality because I think I loose some when I edit/render the mpegs in my video editor. Thanks

60 videos at 1 minute each = 60 minutes, which will fit happily at the highest allowable bitrate for DVD. I would encode CBR at around 8700 - 9000 kbps.
That said, you should have done your editing before you converted to mpeg2, unless you are using a dedicated mpeg-2 editor.Read my blog here.

thanks, do you have any suggestions for an editor? i'm using sony screenblast. it's old but i know how to use it and when i load an avi into it, the audit is not there, so the only thing that worked was to convert it to mpeg....edit and then render it all to another mpeg.
