Ok so I just noticed that when I hit the Prev/Play/Next/Stop media buttons on my Hp keyboard Playing/pausing cd/dvd appears on the screen, and nothing happens when I'm listen to mp3s. So it looks like those controls only work my dvd drives. Is it possible to remap the Media Control buttons to control a program such as winamp?

Not particularly for HP, but KeyTweak can be used for remaping Windows NT/2000/XP keyboards: http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/

It might also be a good idea to check under the Start Menu in the following folders: Accessories, Applications, or HP, and the Control Panel. They might have a program in one of those locations that you can use to remap those keys.

Most of the keyboard remapping involves registry changes. I disabled my caps lock key on my HP laptop as I seemed to keep hitting the thing every time I was trying to hit the shift key. I remapped it to my scroll lock key, which I never use anyway. I haven't tried the KeyTweak program, but I suspect that's how it works. If you have the keycode location, you should be able to remap most keys.

You can check around for a HP forum that may give you a in-house program for HP remapping. With HP, though, it's probably built into the OS that's been customized by HP for their keyboard and computer. Aftermarket multimedia type keyboards sometimes come with a disc that allows you to change the mapping. If you make any registry changes, you should back up the registry first as any changes happen immediately and there's no 'undo' button.
