    my Packard Bell MP3 player:

Can anyone please tell me what to do?

Use a different converter? Or do you have to use it for your packard bell mp3 player?

What sort of avi is it ?

Most software that comes with mp3/4 players is, frankly, crap. They have limited ability to read files, and often encode only to a few specific types.

In this case it appears that the file simply cannot be read by the software. Why ? Who knows - call Packard Bell support.

    Things you might try

    1. Load via avisynth. My daughter's MP3 player plays AMV video only, and only when converted by the crappy software that came with it. It struggles to load many formats natively, but I can feed it pretty much anything that avisynth will load.

    2. If you have a sample of a clip that does play on the device, use g-spot or media info to work out what it is, and see if something else can create it for you. If it uses a common format, you may be able to use AVI Demux or WinFF or Virtualdub to create the files. All of these are far more robust than Magic Movie.

The other advantage to using avisynth is getting the aspect ratio right. The encoding software will stretch 16:9 material to fill the screen. Using Avisynth I can do a proper crop or add bars as necessary to get the correct aspect ratio.
