I am looking for a program that will allow me to put a clip from my video to run after the disc is inserted and before the main menu pops up. In an ideal world, I would like to be able to make it play in a window or other creative object actually inside of the menu. Although I know this might be a bit more complicated to pull off on low and medium end editing software.
The other thing I would really like to do is make each chapter point in the disc have a picture or video clip for it as well. This way I can have a pic(or video) and caption for each point making the disc much more appealing.

Free is always best, however if anyone knows of software they have actually used that does this well I don't mind paying for it.

The company info for Ulead/Corel Videostudio 11 and Cyberlink Powerproducer 6 both claim they can do this. However, I cannot find a single person who has actually used either one of these programs. And I could not find enough online reviews to make a good decision.

    Any Ideas?

DVD Lab from Mediachance is a tool, but your file has to be Mpeg2 DVD compliant, than you can produce DVD like a pro, with all the feature you listed.
They have 30 day try version.

  3. To add a clip to become the first play, make it into a small "mini-DVD" (author it), open the main DVD in PGCEdit, go Title->Import First-Play (Startup) Clip, and follow the easy instructions from there.

As for the other stuff, it's limited only by your menu creation and encoding skills. It can be all done in freeware, encoding using HCEnc and using GUI4DVDAuthor or DVDAuthorGUI for authoring with your newly created menu screens.
