  1. I have some mpeg-1 files that I made at 704x480, 2520 bitrate. I used them for my xVCD and they played great on my Pioneer DVD player. But xVCDs don't work so well on all DVD players. So now I want to convert those hi-res mpeg-1 files to a VCD-compliant 352x240, 1150 bit rate.

But when I use the hi-res mpeg-1 as the source file, and render it to the 352-240 file, the audio gets out of sync but a half a second. Also, there is some sound blips that appear from time to time.

Is there a better way to convert an MPEG-1 to a lower quality MPEG-1 than simply using TMPEGenc's standard (avi to mpeg) converter tool? :(

  2. I should have mentioned that I used TMPEGenc to do the conversion.

  3. In TMPGENC, under Option/Environmental Settings, bump up the priority of the DirectShow filters to something like 5, this should take care of your synch problems.

If this still does not help, use VDUB to extract the audio first, and encode using the resulting WAV file as audio source.
