I want to buy a lap top and hopefully use it whilst abroad. I understand that some lap tops come wireless enabled built in, but I'm wondering what else I would need to connect to the internet, say in a hotel in Greece ?

    Thanks in advance.

Expect to pay extremely high rates for connection through a hotel. Go online and locate wireless hot spots (and terms for use) in the city you plan to visit.

A road warrior kit might include modem cables, power adapters, Ethernet cable, USB2 cable and maybe an auxiliary long focus wifi antenna. Also check for connection opportunities through your cell phone.

Really ? I remember friend had a lap top, she didn't have a phone in her home, but was able to connect to the internet, she had some usb stick, what is that ?

I used Hotel as an example, I'm wanting to be able to take a lap top to Greece staying with some friends, they have no internet there, so I was hoping I could have some sort of internet connection ?

The 'USB stick' may have been a WiFi internet adapter. But they are limited on distance, usually less than a few hundred feet. Many hotels have WiFi which they will let you link to the internet for a price. Other than that, if your friends aren't in a big city with WiFi connect points very nearby, you would be limited to dialup over the phone lines and you would need a internet provider for that. And any WiFi connection you find has to be open to anyone, fairly rare unless you are in a hotel or internet café.
