My older pc is a Compaq Presario 6301RSH. It says that it supports DDR PC2700,DDR PC3200 RAM speeds. My question is would a 1GB of PC4200 DDR2 RAM, that I have lying around, work in that system?

    Thanks for any replys

DDR is 184 pin, DDR 2 is 240 pin and the pin arrangement is different. More info on DDR RAM here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR_SDRAM

You could use a faster DDR RAM than the original, but the speed of the new RAM would revert to the speed of the installed old RAM.

www.oempcworld.com excellent RAM site - will tell you what your computer can use - and will offer it at a reasonable price, including shipping.
