Back a few years ago after much research on the web, I found that metal AZO was the best dye used for DVDs. Much to my dismay every mfg. seems to be using a cheaper/inferior dyes now. I tried "great azo" very poor manufacturings quality, switched to verbatum (now azo+ ??).
So what's the deal now? Any dye equal to or better than the older metal AZO dye? Or do we just roll over and die?

Verbatim uses their AZO dyes still. The metallic inorganics yield a better reflective performance. Some so-called "studies" has shown it to be less reliable than others, but I've found those studies to mostly be horsecrap from propagandist competitors (Mitsui being the worst offender).
